‘MadeInCambodia’ campaign launched to promote local products

The year-long event will showcase the diversity of locally produced products to consumers and increase their awareness of national products regarding price, quality, and compliance.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) Saturday launched the ‘MadeInCambodia’ campaign, a year-long event involving more than 300 supermarkets, marts, and mini-marts in the capital and provinces to promote high-quality local products to consumers.

Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul presided over the official ceremony at Chip Mong 271 Mega Mall with attendence of local producers, representatives from small and medium enterprises and the private sector. The campaign will feature a week-long program held every month throughout the year in malls and mini-marts across the capital provinces.

The ‘MadeInCambodia’ aims to showcase the diversity of locally produced products to citizens, consumers and to empower consumers by increasing awareness of national products regarding price, quality, and compliance, Nimul said. It also contributes to linking markets by providing opportunities for manufacturing enterprises, she said.

“The MadeInCambodia campaign truly holds significant and profound meaning in the hearts of our people, demonstrating their love for national products, their love for Cambodian farmers and producers, and their nationalistic spirit,” Nimul said.

Local products have gained popularity after consumers boycotted Thai products. This support is because the Cambodian Government, as well as relevant ministries and institutions, have helped to find markets and increase the promotion of their products to the people.

Local manufacturers welcomed the move, citing it as a vital step in competing with imported goods that have dominated the market.

Speaking with Khmer Times, Ou Sereyneang, chairwoman of Sabo Khmer Yoeung, a local SME, said, “With the government’s support, local producers are able to make the market connection. We need to increase our sales and improve our packaging to meet high-quality standards.”
