Cambodia, Canada discuss trade and investment cooperation
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol met with a senior Canadian diplomat yesterday to discuss strengthening economic ties following a successful investment mission to North America.

The Deputy Prime Minister Chanthol, who serves as First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), received Alan Bowman, Canada’s Director General for Southeast Asia and Oceania, during his working visit to co-chair the Second Cambodia-Canada Bilateral Consultations.
Chanthol expressed his appreciation for the significant boost in trade volume between the two nations. He said the “excellent results” of a recent Cambodian delegation mission to Canada, which he said established a direct link between the two business communities.
During the talks, Chanthol credited the Canadian Embassy for its coordination and support, which he identified as key factors in the mission’s success. He said Cambodia’s unique position as the first country to sign a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States, arguing that such frameworks give international investors greater confidence and strategic clarity.
For his part, Bowman expressed a strong dedication to enhancing Cambodia’s profile in international forums, especially regarding its investment climate and social environment. The Canadian envoy also praised Cambodia’s “remarkable progress” in the logistics sector.
