Cambodia’s exports to Japan rise 16.6% in January
Cambodia’s exports to Japan rose sharply in January 2026, increasing by 16.6 percent year-on-year to reach $176 million, according to the latest trade data from the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE).

The data show that Japan has become Cambodia’s third-largest export market, behind the United States and Vietnam. The growth underscores strengthening economic ties between Cambodia and Japan amid expanding regional trade cooperation.
Total bilateral trade between the two countries reached $276 million in January, marking a 22.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. The surge was driven by robust gains on both sides of the trade relationship.
Imports from Japan climbed even faster than exports, jumping 36 percent year-on-year to $100 million. Japanese goods imported into Cambodia typically include machinery, vehicles, electronics and industrial equipment, which support the Kingdom’s manufacturing and infrastructure development.
It may be recalled that Cambodia’s trade with Japan recorded strong growth in 2025, rising by 17 percent compared to the previous year to reach $2.53 billion.
In 2025, exports from Cambodia to Japan grew by 12 percent, reaching $1.57 billion. Key export items included garments, footwear, travel goods, agricultural products, and electronic components, which continue to benefit from Japan’s stable demand and preferential trade arrangements.
Officials said the continued expansion reflects strong investor confidence and deepening commercial links. They expect the upward trend to continue in the coming months as both countries seek to diversify markets and strengthen supply chain partnerships in the region.
