Cambodia and Vietnam bolster strategic trade ties
The Kampong Speu Governor, Cheam Chan Sophorn, met a delegation from Vietnam’s Vinh Long province on Wednesday to reaffirm the strategic importance of the Phnom Penh-Hanoi partnership.

Led by the Vinh Long Province People’s Committee Vice-Chairman, Nguyen Quynh Thien, the visit coincided with the upcoming Khmer New Year and served as a platform for discussing the expansion of bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and security.
Governor Sophorn emphasised that Cambodia and Vietnam share a long-standing tradition of good neighbourliness and comprehensive cooperation. He said both nations are working together to address global challenges and deepen mutual understanding. Vietnam remains a critical export market for Cambodian agricultural products. The governor highlighted that bilateral relations are gaining strong momentum across all sectors, with resilience maintained in areas of shared strategic interest.
For his part, Vice-Chairman Nguyen praised Cambodia’s rapid development under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
He said Kampong Speu province has successfully transformed from a war-torn region into a modern, vibrant economic hub.
Nguyen pledged to encourage Vietnamese investors to view Kampong Speu as a primary destination for business expansion, further cementing economic ties between the two provinces.
According to the General Department of Customs and Excise, bilateral trade between the two nations surged by 12% to $7,792 million in 2025. Of this total, Cambodia’s exports were valued at $3,729 million. Both countries have consistently supported each other’s national development goals, with a shared long-term objective to expand bilateral trade to $20 billion and enhance regional economic integration.
