Cambodian premium rice enters hundreds of retail outlets in Hong Kong

Commerce Minister Cham Nimul announced that “Golden King” Cambodian Premium Jasmine Rice is now distributed in over 345 retail outlets in Hong Kong and Cambodia, marking a key step in expanding the kingdom’s agricultural reach internationally.

The expansion results from Amru Rice (Cambodia) Co., Ltd.’s partnership with DFI Retail Group, a major Asian conglomerate. The rice is now available in over 245 Wellcome supermarkets in Hong Kong and about 100 Lucky Supermarkets in Cambodia. This initiative expands exporters’ market access and supports the ministry’s #MadeInCambodia campaign to boost global visibility.

Commerce Minister Cham Nimul commended Amru Rice for promoting Cambodian grains abroad. She noted the product is packaged under “Malys Angkor” certification, reflecting national identity and international quality standards. The rice is sourced from local communities practising sustainable agriculture, meeting global demand for responsible food production.

Cambodia’s premium fragrant rice, the Phka Rumduol variety, has achieved international acclaim, winning the World’s Best Rice award seven times, most recently in 2025. The ministry highlighted that this retail rollout is part of ongoing initiatives to increase value addition in the agricultural sector and facilitate trade, particularly through public-private partnerships.

Minister Cham Nimul reaffirmed the government’s support for exporters through the Export Promotion Task Force, focusing on brand development, diversification, and improved access to global markets, especially for products with Geographical Indication status. The initiative strengthens Cambodia’s rice trade and supports sustainable growth.
