Cambodia Expands ASEAN Cross-Border QR Payment Links
Cambodia is expanding its regional financial footprint after establishing bilateral cross-border QR payment linkages with five key ASEAN nations: Lao PDR, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Led by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) via the Bakong platform and the KHQR system, the initiative positions the kingdom as an interconnected payment hub in Southeast Asia.
The digital infrastructure allows Cambodian citizens and international travellers to execute instant retail transactions in local currency by scanning standard QR codes across participating partner networks.
With five active bilateral connections, Cambodia matches Singapore’s regional integration standing and ranks closely behind Thailand, marking a milestone toward a seamless digital economy.
Marking the 59th ASEAN Day, the ASEAN Secretariat said that cross-border QR connectivity simplifies everyday transactions for citizens, tourists, merchants, and small enterprises across member states.
“The continued expansion of payment connectivity reflects ASEAN’s commitment towards inclusive and user-centric payment solutions that will foster inclusive growth and economic participation across the region,” the secretariat said.
“As we journey towards the 59th ASEAN Day, this milestone reminds us that ASEAN’s digital future is about creating practical connections that people can experience in their daily lives.”
Financial authorities asserted that interoperable payment systems reduce reliance on traditional foreign exchange methods, lower transaction costs for cross-border traders, and boost tourism competitiveness throughout the region.
