Vissoth warns that rising oil prices and global supply chain disruptions could trigger an energy crisis, push inflation higher, and affect socio-economic activities.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth Monday urged officials, authorities and citizens to strengthen their preparedness and build economic resilience to support stronger economic development.
Speaking at a meeting to review the 2025 work results and set directions for 2026 of the Royal Government Working Group in Kampong Thom province, Vissoth said, “In the face of these challenges, we must remain vigilant, strengthen ourselves, learn to live in emergency situations, maintain national unity, and enhance the resilience of the economy to promote stronger development and ensure stable livelihoods.”
The meeting was attended by Senior Minister Thong Khon, Governor of Kampong Thom Nuon Pharath, Minister of Tourism Huot Hak, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Thor Chetha, along with other provincial officials.
Vissoth, who also heads the Royal Government Working Group in Kampong Thom, said the meeting provided an opportunity to reorient priorities, strengthen coordination between political, technical and grassroots-level officials, and enhance engagement with local communities. It also aimed to gather feedback from the grassroots on the effectiveness of policy implementation compared with the Royal Government’s strategies.
He expressed appreciation for the strong unity and solidarity among working groups at all levels in addressing external challenges, maintaining stability and security, advancing local development, and improving people’s daily livelihoods.
Highlighting concerns over conflicts in the Middle East, Vissoth warned that rising oil prices and global supply chain disruptions could trigger an energy crisis, push inflation higher, and affect socio-economic activities. These pressures, he noted, could further impact Cambodia’s economy and people’s living conditions.
Vissoth also encouraged all working groups to continue working in unity and with a stronger commitment to improve livelihoods and drive economic growth in Kampong Thom—Cambodia’s largest province by land area—aiming to transform it into a key economic hub.
He urged local authorities to strengthen leadership, management capacity and accountability in addressing issues and delivering public services, including security and public order, business facilitation, investment promotion, education, healthcare, social protection and justice, to help resolve local disputes and ensure social equity.
On his part, Pharath, who is also the Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial Royal Government Working Group, highlighted the group’s achievements across all sectors in 2025, particularly in infrastructure, economic development, tourism, agriculture, investment, and efforts to improve people’s livelihoods.
He said the provincial working group had carried out a wide range of tasks through several specialised teams, including infrastructure development, economic planning, livelihood improvement, and a special mobile intervention team for infrastructure.
Other key teams focused on local economic development and the promotion of Cambodian products, as well as legal teams operating across the province’s districts and municipalities, and a working group responsible for tourism development planning in Kampong Thom.
