Agriculture sector contributes 16% to Cambodia’s GDP, Tina says

The agricultural sector has made remarkable progress, transforming from a state of food insecurity to achieving domestic food security, and now the country exports millions of tonnes annually, contributing to global food security, says minister.

The agricultural sector contributed 16.1 percent to Cambodia’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025, remaining as one of the key drivers of the national economy. However, the percentage dropped from 16.7 compared to 2024.

The figures were mentioned in the first-ever Cambodia Agricultural Forum held on Monday, chaired by Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.

The forum was participated by representatives from relevant ministries and institutions of the government, relevant working groups of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, representatives of private companies and associations, and other stakeholders.

This forum was held to consult, discuss, and jointly address and prepare measures to promote and support Cambodia’s agricultural sector, with the participation of leaders from relevant ministries, institutions, the private sector, and agricultural experts.

“Although the contribution of the agricultural sector varies from year to year, the gross value added in agriculture has increased annually from 20,380 billion Riels in 2016 to 33,149 billion Riels in 2025,” underlined the forum.

Agriculture is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economic growth, in addition to garment, footwear, and travel goods export, tourism, and construction and real estate.

The government has announced the implementation of a new strategic policy, aiming to upgrade agriculture from household to commercial farming and enhance farmers’ income through value-added products.

Tina has previously said the agricultural sector has moved beyond domestic food security to become a vital contributor to the global food supply, exporting millions of tonnes each year.

“The agricultural sector has made remarkable progress, transforming from a state of food insecurity to achieving domestic food security, and now the country exports millions of tonnes annually, contributing to global food security,” he said.

Cambodia made a gross revenue of $6.46 billion from its exports of agricultural products in 2025, up 7.3 percent from $6.02 billion in the year before, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said in a report.

Potential agricultural products for exports included rice, rubber, cassava, mangoes, bananas, peppercorn, cashew nuts, longans, and durians, among others.

The ministry plans to continue to organise the Cambodian Agriculture Forum every year.
