Strategic meeting targets aquaculture expansion and market stability
Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) Secretary of State Has Sareth convened a high-level technical meeting on Tuesday to accelerate the strategic development of the nation’s aquaculture sector.

Sareth, who also serves as Chairman of the Ad Hoc Commission for Supporting Aquaculture, presided over the session at the ministry on February 24. The gathering brought together secretaries of state, undersecretaries of state, and senior technical experts from the Fisheries Administration to refine the regional roadmap for fish production.
Opening the proceedings, Sareth said the technical working group’s crucial role as the commission’s secretariat. He noted that the group is responsible for the thorough analysis of market trends, the development of robust business plans for both domestic and export markets, and the long-term supervision of sustainable industry growth.
The working group presented comprehensive data on the current fish meat and fingerling supply chains. Discussions focused heavily on the balance between domestic yields and the import-export landscape, identifying specific gaps where local production could be increased to reduce reliance on foreign markets.
“The technical working group has shown commendable dedication in executing their duties,” Sareth remarked, acknowledging the progress made in data collection and sectoral evaluation.
To conclude the session, Sareth issued directives to streamline future operations. He instructed the group to compile an exhaustive report detailing current production hurdles and market challenges. This document will serve as the foundation for the Ad Hoc Commission’s upcoming policy reviews, ensuring that practical solutions are implemented to bolster the livelihoods of fish farmers and enhance national food security.
