Industry Minister calls on ACBC to bridge Cambodian manufacturers with U.S. market

Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation Minister Hem Vanndy yesterday called on the American Cambodian Business Chamber (ACBC) to help connect capable Cambodian manufacturers and SMEs with U.S. buyers, while improving their understanding of market requirements, standards and commercial demand.

Speaking during a meeting with an ACBC business delegation led by its founder and president, Sokveasna Chan, Minister Vanndy said Cambodia has opportunities to expand exports to the United States beyond traditional sectors, particularly in furniture, agro-processing and other value-added products.

He said some Cambodian products are already export-ready, but producers often face challenges in achieving the scale required by large buyers, while smaller enterprises may need additional support to meet US technical, packaging and market-entry requirements.

“We should not cast the net too wide. We need to select capable enterprises and products with potential, and then work together to help them meet the requirements of the US market,” Minister Vanndy said.

The minister encouraged ACBC to serve as a bridge between U.S. market demand and Cambodian producers by identifying buyers, aggregating demand and providing clearer information on specifications, standards and order volumes. He said firm buyer commitments would also give Cambodian manufacturers greater confidence to expand production capacity.

ACBC said it was ready to work with MISTI to help Cambodian manufacturers better understand US market-entry requirements through technical briefings, workshops and engagement with relevant US agencies and experts.

The two sides also discussed long-term cooperation on food safety, packaging, standards and certification, as well as technology transfer and industrial modernisation. They highlighted the need to strengthen domestic value addition, support industries and the competitiveness of Cambodian SMEs.
