Kingdom’s first-half tax revenue climbs to $3.58B
Mid-year revenue trends show the GDCE is projected to reach 102.7% of its yearly target, while the GDT is expected to achieve 102.1% of its target.

Cambodia collected $3.7 billion in tax revenue from all sources during the first half of 2026, according to a report from the Ministry of Economy and Finance released yesterday.
The country’s tax collection is managed by two main institutions: the General Department of Taxation (GDT), which oversees domestic taxes such as income tax, salary tax, value-added tax and property tax, and the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia (GDCE), which collects customs duties and excise taxes.
The GDCE collected 6.2 trillion riel ($1.533 billion) between January and June, equivalent to 51.5 percent of its full-year revenue target, the ministry said. The figure represented a 9.3 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the GDT collected 8.8 trillion riel ($2.175 billion), up 11.2 percent year-on-year and equivalent to 62.5 percent of its 2026 target.
“Fiscal revenue in the first six months of 2026 is higher than the first six months in 2025, due to the strict implementation of decisive measures to prevent and suppress tax evasion and strengthen the governance of tax revenue collection units,” the ministry said.
Based on revenue collection during the first six months, the ministry projects that GDCE collections could reach 102.7 percent of its annual target, while GDT collections are expected to reach 102.1 percent of the target.
The government has stepped up efforts to improve tax administration and crack down on tax evasion as it seeks to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation amid ongoing economic challenges.
Earlier this month, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth urged the GDCE to strengthen measures to prevent tax evasion and accelerate the development of artificial intelligence (AI)-based systems.
He praised the GDCE’s achievements in implementing measures to improve revenue collection and developing information technology systems.
Pornmoniroth also called on customs and excise officials at all levels to strengthen technical work and develop effective management mechanisms to improve the prevention of tax evasion and fraud.
He further instructed the GDCE to integrate AI into customs operations to improve revenue collection efficiency and facilitate trade.
The ministry said Cambodia’s tax revenue collection has remained resilient despite economic challenges, reflecting continued efforts to strengthen tax administration and enforcement.
