Kingdom bags $5.22B investment surge in seven months

Tourism and building projects are seeing a lot of growth, while factories and industries remain the main choice for funding.

Cambodia attracted $5.22 billion in registered foreign investment during the first seven months of 2026, according to a report released by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) on Friday.

The CDC approved 309 investment projects between January and July, which are expected to create approximately 177,000 jobs nationwide, read the release.

The registered investment comprises newly approved capital as well as additional capital injected into existing projects.

Manufacturing and industrial projects continued to account for the largest share of investment. However, significant capital growth in large-scale infrastructure, hospitality and sustainable tourism projects helped drive overall investment higher year-on-year.

The CDC also highlighted growing investor interest in emerging sectors, including renewable energy, digital infrastructure and electric vehicle assembly.

“During the first seven months of 2026, Cambodia continued to attract quality investment, particularly in infrastructure and tourism, where investment has increased, while the industrial sector remained a leading area for investment,” the CDC said.

Vice-President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce Lim Heng attributed the influx of investment to growing investor confidence in the country’s economic development and market opportunities.

“The steady influx of investment capital reflects continued foreign confidence in Cambodia’s political stability, competitive labour market and strategic trade agreements such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership,” Heng told Khmer Times.

International companies are increasingly viewing Cambodia as an important production base within regional supply chains. This is supported by preferential market access through multiple free trade agreements, as well as the country’s political and macroeconomic stability.

The government has intensified efforts to attract high-value investment in technology, electronics, automotive components, green industries and value-added agriculture as part of its strategy to diversify the economy beyond traditional labour-intensive manufacturing.

Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the CDC, has recently said Cambodia’s modern legal framework, expanding network of free trade agreements, improving logistics infrastructure and young workforce continues to make the Kingdom an attractive destination for long-term investment.

The government has also accelerated institutional reforms to improve the investment climate by streamlining administrative procedures, reducing unnecessary bureaucracy and expanding digital public services, Chanthol said.
