CDC approves $5.22B investment surge in Cambodia

Cambodia secured $5.22 billion in fixed-asset investment projects during the first seven months of 2026, according to a Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) press release issued yesterday.

The CDC approved 309 investment projects between January and July, a surge expected to create approximately 177,000 jobs.

“During the first seven months of 2026, Cambodia continued to attract high-quality projects, driven by capital growth in the infrastructure and tourism sectors, while the industrial sector remained the leading driver of investment,” the press release said.

The Southeast Asian country has also seen a rise in investments targeting renewable energy, electric vehicle (EV) assembly plants, and EV infrastructure.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director of the China-ASEAN Studies Center at the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said investments in advanced manufacturing, supply chain integration, agro-industry processing, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, automation, AI, and EV technologies are helping Cambodia shift away from traditional industries toward high-tech and high-quality sectors.
