Cambodia steps up efforts to attract the Muslim tourism market
Cambodia is strengthening its bid to tap the fast-growing global Muslim travel market, with the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) launching new Muslim-friendly tourism standards and promoting tailored tourism products to attract more visitors from Southeast Asia and beyond.

Speaking at the Cambodia Muslim Tourism Forum and Expo 2026 in Phnom Penh yesterday, Tourism Minister Huot Hak, together with Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng, reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to positioning the Kingdom as a safe, welcoming and trusted destination for Muslim travellers.
Held under the theme “A Land of Beauty, A Trusted Home for Travel,” the three-day forum (July 10-12) aims to enhance Cambodia’s competitiveness in the halal tourism sector by promoting internationally recognised Muslim-friendly hospitality standards, showcasing the country’s tourism offerings and encouraging greater private sector participation.
The event attracted 513 participants, including ambassadors, tourism industry representatives, airlines, transport operators, tourism associations, business leaders, exhibitors and international delegates.
A key highlight was the launch of the Cambodia Muslim-Friendly Tourism Standards Handbook, which will serve as the national guideline for developing Muslim-friendly destinations, tourism businesses and hospitality services that meet international standards for quality, safety and traveller confidence.
The forum builds on the success of the previous two editions in 2024 and 2025 and has expanded into a larger three-day event featuring policy discussions, business networking and an exhibition with around 150 booths.
To support tourism investment and product development, the Ministry of Tourism also organised a familiarisation trip for Muslim travel operators from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, enabling them to explore Cambodia’s key destinations and develop travel packages targeting Muslim visitors from the region and global markets.
The ministry said the initiative is expected to strengthen tourism cooperation with partner countries, create new business opportunities for tourism operators and reinforce Cambodia’s position as an emerging Muslim-friendly destination in the region.
