Cambodia, Laos to bolster STI, MSME development ties

Both sides also discuss strengthening cooperation in the fields of research, national quality infrastructure, human resource development and regional connectivity.

Cambodia and Laos Monday agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation (STI) and micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) development.

The commitment was highlighted during a meeting between Hem Vanndy, minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, and Sonexay Vannaxay, newly appointed ambassador of Laos to Cambodia, at MISTI’s headquarters.

Both sides also discussed strengthening cooperation in the fields of research, national quality infrastructure, human resource development and regional connectivity.

Welcoming the ambassador, Vanndy congratulated him on his appointment as the new Lao Ambassador to Cambodia. He said, “For countries with small economies, science, technology and innovation are not an option but a necessity.”

He said, “Through closer collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the strengthening of research, standardisation and innovation ecosystem, Cambodia and Laos can support the development of micro, small and medium enterprises, increase competitiveness and create new opportunities for the people of both nations.”

In response, Ambassador Sonexay highlighted the potential of the Lao-China high-speed railway and improved cross-border transport links, which could help facilitate trade, reduce the transport time of agricultural products, and promote tourism, as well as people-to-people connections between Cambodia, Laos and China.

The ambassador reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Cambodia during his diplomatic mandate, serving as a bridge connecting the two nations.
