Cambodia sees large factories increase to nearly 3,300
The increase in factory numbers reflects continued investment inflows and supports the Kingdom’s position as an attractive manufacturing destination, an official says.

Cambodia’s industrial sector continued to demonstrate strong growth momentum, with the number of large-scale factories in the Kingdom rising to 3,284 as of the end of May 2026, according to a report released by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) on Saturday.
The latest figures highlight sustained investment inflows and employment expansion, reinforcing the industrial sector’s role as a key pillar supporting Cambodia’s economic growth.
According to MISTI, the Kingdom had 3,284 operating factories by the end of May 2026, employing more than 1.33 million workers and attracting cumulative investment capital exceeding $27.6 billion.
The number of large factories increased by 5.35 percent from 3,084 recorded at the end of 2025, reflecting continued confidence among investors in Cambodia’s manufacturing sector.
Speaking at the Asia Prestige 50 Under 50 CEO Excellence Award 2026 on Friday, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Hem Vanndy said Cambodia remains open for business and continues to welcome long-term investment partnerships.
“Investor confidence is reflected in the increased investment projects and continued expansion of existing manufacturers, citing the launch of Toyota’s new Hilux Travo assembly line the previous day as a strong vote of confidence in Cambodia’s long-term potential,” Vanndy said.
The minister also encouraged Cambodian and international companies to invest in supporting industries and work with local SMEs, which are increasingly ready to become reliable partners in global supply chains.
Anthony Galliano, Honorary Board Advisor of the Association of Global Entrepreneur 1% Club, said Cambodia’s growing investment appeal reflects its transition toward higher-value industries.
“The continued innovation and competitiveness will be key to advancing further up the global value chain,” Galliano said at the event.
The manufacturing landscape remains largely driven by garments, footwear, and travel goods, though the government has increasingly pushed for diversification into electronic components and higher-value assembly.
The Cambodia Chamber of Commerce welcomed the data, noting that the steady surge in factory openings is a direct reflection of Cambodia’s competitive investment policies.
“The increase in factory numbers reflects continued investment inflows and supports Cambodia’s position as an attractive manufacturing destination,” its Vice-President Heng told Khmer Times.
