NBC refutes false rumours of banking instability

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has rejected rumours circulating on social media claiming that certain banking and financial institutions are facing difficulties, describing the reports as baseless and misleading.

In a statement released yesterday, the central bank said the unverified reports risk harming the interests of the public and banking service users while undermining confidence in the wider financial system.

The NBC strongly condemned the dissemination of false information aimed at destabilising the economy and called on competent authorities to take legal action against those involved. The bank also urged the public to verify claims through official channels.

According to the NBC’s first-half 2026 performance report, the banking system maintains strong capital and liquidity positions.

Credit grew by 4.6% to 256.7 trillion riel ($64.2 billion) as of June, while customer deposits increased by 4.4% to 257.4 trillion riel.
