Cambodia records 845 new enterprises, creates over 91,000 jobs in first half of 2026

Figures from the first half of 2026 reflect continued investor confidence despite global economic uncertainty, according to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

The economy maintained strong investment momentum in the first half of 2026, with 845 new enterprises established and more than 91,000 jobs created, underscoring continued investor confidence despite global economic uncertainty.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT), the number of registered enterprises under its jurisdiction increased from 46,649 at the end of 2025 to 47,494 by the end of June.

The expansion was led by the industrial sector, particularly manufacturing, which remained the largest source of employment.

MLVT spokesman Sun Mesa said on Wednesday that the figures show the country continues to attract both domestic and foreign investment despite a challenging global economic environment.

“The increase in enterprises and employment opportunities during the first six months of the year is clear evidence that investors continue to place confidence in Cambodia,” he said.

Manufacturing continued to drive growth with factories producing garments, textiles, footwear, travel goods and bags, increasing from 2,725 to 2,890 in six months.

Mesa attributed the positive trend to the government’s investment-friendly policies, political stability and ongoing efforts to improve workforce skills.

“Although the global economy continues to face uncertainty, Cambodia has maintained its ability to attract investment, expand industrial production and create new jobs,” he said.

“This growth reflects investors’ confidence in Cambodia’s peace, political stability, investment-friendly policies and an increasingly skilled workforce.”

He said more than 91,000 new jobs in six months show investment is translating into tangible employment opportunities for workers while supporting sustainable economic growth.

MLVT cited recent reforms in the business environment, infrastructure development and expanded technical and vocational education and training as strengthening competitiveness and skilled labour supply.

Mesa also encouraged Cambodian job seekers, particularly returning migrant workers, to seek employment through the National Employment Agency, saying domestic jobs offer legal protection, social security benefits and opportunities for career advancement.

National Labour Union of Cambodia President Sam Soeun on Wednesday welcomed the increase.

“The increase in employment opportunities and investment reflects the strength of Cambodia’s labour sector,” he said.

He added that the country’s firm stance against illegal labour practices enhance its reputation as a responsible manufacturing destination.

Soeun highlighted the 2024–28 Decent Work Country Programme, saying its implementation provides a solid foundation for expanding investment and creating quality jobs.

He noted that these efforts have fostered a favourable investment climate by reinforcing labour standards and investor confidence.
