Kingdom, Israel deepen economic ties

Discussions focus on promoting bilateral trade, diversifying traded products, encouraging investment and strengthening links between the private sectors of both countries

Cambodia and Israel are seeking to deepen economic ties and unlock new opportunities for trade and investment cooperation, with both countries expressing interest in expanding collaboration across a range of sectors, including agriculture, innovation, technology and private-sector development.

The commitment was highlighted during a meeting at the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday, where Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul received Alona Fisher-Kamm, Ambassador of Israel to Cambodia, for a courtesy call and discussions on strengthening bilateral economic relations.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed recent developments in Cambodia-Israel trade relations and explored new avenues to enhance commercial cooperation. Discussions focused on promoting bilateral trade, diversifying traded products, encouraging investment and strengthening links between the private sectors of both countries.

Officials also exchanged views on opportunities to expand cooperation in sectors that offer significant growth potential. Particular attention was given to agriculture, innovation and technology, areas in which Israel has established a strong international reputation and where cooperation could contribute to Cambodia’s ongoing economic modernisation and productivity improvements.

A key topic of discussion was the potential establishment of a joint trade mechanism that could serve as a platform for facilitating business activities and investment between the two countries.

Such a mechanism could help improve communication between government agencies and the business community, address challenges faced by companies, and create a more favourable environment for commercial partnerships.

Both parties noted that stronger engagement between Cambodian and Israeli businesses could generate new opportunities for trade and investment. They emphasised the importance of encouraging exchanges of business delegations and private-sector visits, which could help companies identify potential partners, explore new markets and gain a better understanding of available opportunities in each country.

The discussions also highlighted the role of trade promotion events in strengthening economic cooperation. Participation in exhibitions and business forums, including the Cambodia Trade Expo, was identified as an effective way to showcase products, promote investment opportunities and connect businesses with potential buyers and investors. Such events can also help raise awareness of sectors with strong growth potential and encourage greater commercial interaction between the two countries.

As Cambodia continues to diversify its economic partnerships and expand access to international markets, cooperation with Israel could provide additional opportunities in areas such as agricultural technology, water management, digital innovation and entrepreneurship. These sectors are increasingly important to Cambodia’s long-term development strategy as the country seeks to enhance competitiveness and move toward a more technology-driven economy.

The meeting reflected the shared commitment of both governments to strengthening bilateral economic relations and fostering closer cooperation between their business communities. By promoting greater trade, investment and knowledge-sharing, Cambodia and Israel aim to create new opportunities for businesses and support sustainable economic growth in both countries.

The discussions also underscored the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation in building stronger commercial ties and translating economic potential into tangible business partnerships in the years ahead.
