MoU to help Cambodia attract more European tourists

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with French organization CodeauKhmer to promote Cambodia’s eco-tourism sector, aiming to showcase the country’s pristine and largely untapped natural attractions and attract more tourists from France and across Europe.

The signing ceremony, held on Monday under the chairmanship of Minister of Tourism Huot Hak at the ministry, was attended by Pierric Reynaud, representative of the French Embassy in Cambodia, Ang Pitou, President of CodeauKhmer, and other stakeholders from the eco-tourism sector.

According to Hak, the MoU will help the promotion of Cambodia’s tourism—especially eco-tourism—with the support of major French state energy enterprises such as EDF-GDF. The initiative encourages their employees to choose Cambodia as a destination for annual holidays, besides attracting more French and European tourists through their organizational networks.

“All parties share a common view that promoting tourism development—especially eco-tourism—is vital for strengthening and expanding historic ties between Cambodia and France,” he said.

“It also contributes to boosting local economies, creating jobs and income for communities, improving livelihoods, supporting national economic growth, and enhancing Cambodia’s reputation on the international stage as an attractive eco-tourism destination,” the minister noted.

Hak requested all relevant parties to actively implement this project to increase the arrival of French and European tourists to Cambodia, especially in the upcoming green season.
