Ministry of Commerce warns against fuel stockpiling amid Middle East conflict
The Ministry of Commerce yesterday urged the public to refrain from stockpiling fuel, warning that storing petroleum products without following technical standards poses a serious fire hazard.

In a formal statement, the ministry advised fuel distributors, petrol station operators, and consumers to comply with safety regulations regarding the sale, purchase, and storage of fuel to prevent potential disasters.
The directive follows a surge in fuel purchases by consumers trying to hedge against price hikes linked to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Retail oil prices in the kingdom rose this week and are expected to continue climbing, as the Southeast Asian nation relies entirely on imported diesel and petrol.
The ministry stated that authorities will routinely monitor petrol stations to ensure they adhere to safety standards and prevent price gouging.
Under current regulations, the government has implemented tax subsidies to keep price fluctuations within a manageable range, often capping the retail price at a rate roughly 10% below the true market value during periods of global instability.
