Single portal hits business registration milestone
Digital technology has facilitated business operations and increased efficiency by enabling businesses to reach more customers.

The Online Business Registration (OBR), known as Single Portal, registered 53,422 businesses with $21.39 billion in capital as of 2025, according to an official report yesterday.
The report stated five business sectors with the most registered companies and enterprises, including restaurant and catering services activities, wholesale specialties, wholesale of household goods, construction of buildings, retail sales of goods in specialised stores, and other business objectives.
According to the report, 4,800 businesses were registered as restaurant and catering services activities, followed by 2,973 wholesale specialties, 2,535 wholesale of household goods, 2,132 construction firms, and 2,076 retail sales of goods in specialised stores.
The report further said, 38,918 businesses or 72 percent of total licensed businesses are on other business objectives.
The data stated 19,389 licensed businesses or 36 percent of the total owned by women entrepreneurs, and added that 26,326 other business names are reserved.
Lim Heng, Vice-President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, said that the progress showed a testament to the government’s effective reform to improve the business environment in the country.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Heng said, “The Online Business Registration has removed significant barriers to registration, encouraging informal businesses to transition into the formal sector where they can access better financing and government support.”
The Ministry of Economy and Finance launched the first phase of the OBR portal on June 15, 2020, the second phase on September 15, 2021, and the third phase in 2024, to cut down complex procedures and repetition of information and save time and cost.
Over the past two decades, digital technology has undergone rapid development and continues to evolve, serving as a key catalyst for enabling economic activities globally, including in Cambodia.
Modernising public service delivery in Cambodia has transformed the way people live and work across both private and public sectors, according to Strategy for the Development of E-Service for Business 2025-2028.
Digital technology has facilitated business operations, reduced costs, increased efficiency, and, in particular, expanded market opportunities by enabling businesses to reach more customers.
In the private sector, adopting digital technology in business operations is a new advantage that can help promote and sustain business activities.
In the public sector, the use of digital technology is considered a key opportunity and an indispensable instrument for advancing key reforms aimed at ensuring high operational efficiency.
Currently, as many as 33 public services provided by 21 ministries and institutions are available on the single portal system.
