Officials inspect $138m industrial projects as Preah Sihanouk steps up investor support

The government’s working group on investment promotion in Preah Sihanouk province has conducted on-site inspections of five major industrial projects to support investors and ensure the smooth implementation of projects under the Special Programme to Promote Investment.

The inspections were carried out on December 26 and led by Hean Sahib, Adviser to the Prime Minister and Head of the Preah Sihanouk Province Investment Promotion Working Group, together with Provincial Governor Mang Sineth and officials from the provincial administration.

The delegation visited five investment projects located in Sihanoukville, Kampong Som City and Prey Nob district. These included an electrical wire and cable factory operated by Empire Electrical Cable Co., Ltd; an aluminium processing plant run by Cambodia Kuna New Energy Co., Ltd; a furniture manufacturing and assembly factory operated by Bo Kang Industry (Cambodia) Co., Ltd; a steel processing factory operated by Haule Steel; and a steel pipe manufacturing plant operated by Deep Oil Field Cambodia Co., Ltd.

The five industrial projects represent a combined estimated investment of $138 million and are expected to generate about 1,070 jobs.

Sahib said the inspections aimed to monitor project implementation, assess progress on the ground and hear directly from investors about their concerns and challenges. He added that the visits also sought to identify practical solutions and facilitation measures, while encouraging greater use of local labour, skills and technology transfer, and increased use of locally produced materials in factories and enterprises across the province.

The working group said the inspections form part of its ongoing responsibility to provide investor aftercare services under the special investment programme, in close cooperation with the Preah Sihanouk provincial administration. These efforts, it noted, have helped strengthen investor confidence and improve the overall investment climate.

Representatives of the companies expressed satisfaction with the facilitation, attention and incentives provided by the authorities under the Special Programme to Promote Investment in Preah Sihanouk province.

The government has also reaffirmed its decision to extend the special investment programme for a further two years, until the end of 2027, while maintaining existing measures and introducing additional initiatives focused on promoting domestic investment, skills training, the use of local labour and the use of locally produced inputs.

The working group called on investors and business operators to continue sharing feedback and requests to help authorities provide timely support and solutions.
