CDC, top economist team up to revamp investment strategy

Chanthol and Hausmann analyse shifting global economic and political trends to optimise Cambodia’s investment framework and accelerate national growth.

Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) Sun Chanthol Wednesday met with renowned economist Ricardo Hausmann to refine Cambodia’s investment strategies and accelerate national economic development.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the CDC Chea Vuthy and its Deputy Secretary General Lim Visal, as well as a number of relevant leaders and officials.

Professor Hausmann, a leading Venezuelan economist, is the founder and director of Harvard’s Growth Lab and teaches international political economy at the Kennedy School.

Both Chanthol and Hausmann discussed and exchanged views on several important agenda items, including reviewing and analysing the trends of future global economic and political developments based on the reality of current geopolitical and economic changes.

The talks focused on creating strategies to diversify Cambodia’s economy, targeting key drivers to build a resilient, highly effective, and sustainably growing market

Other than these key topics, they also discussed means to improve the investment climate, enabling factors, and continuing reforms to attract foreign investors and facilitate trade to make Cambodia more competitive in the regional and international markets.

It is worth noting that this meeting is a continuation of strategic dialogues initiated on January 22 between Chanthol and Hausmann during the World Economic Forum in Davos. These private consultations laid the groundwork for Cambodia’s ongoing investment overhaul.
