Hun Manet drives Cambodia’s industrial and tech growth in China visit
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has launched an intensive investment mission to China, meeting with a cross-section of industry giants to accelerate Cambodia’s industrial modernisation. The three-day visit, running from July 15 to July 17, signals a strategic pivot towards high-tech integration, sustainable energy, and agricultural value-added processing.

Mr Hun Manet’s agenda prioritises the backbone of Cambodia’s development. Discussions with China Railway Construction Corporation Chairman Dai Hegen underscored a commitment to expanding high-speed transit and logistics networks.
In parallel, the Prime Minister holds discussions with China Energy International President Qiao Xubin to explore synergies in renewable energy, hydropower, and critical water infrastructure, aiming to bolster the nation’s energy security.
The manufacturing sector remains a core pillar, with the Prime Minister engaging CHINALCO President Wang Shilei to explore sustainable mining and processing partnerships. Furthermore, Fang Yanshui of the China Machinery Engineering Corporation Group reviews opportunities for large-scale engineering, procurement, and construction projects, cementing the role of Chinese expertise in Cambodia’s rapid physical expansion.
A significant shift during this visit is the heavy focus on the digital economy and industrial innovation. In a meeting with Zhang Wei, CEO of Beijing Star AI, the Prime Minister explores the integration of AI-powered digital assistants and smart management systems to accelerate Cambodia’s public and private sector digital transformation.
This digital push is complemented by discussions with the Haier Group, where Vice President Diao Yunfeng showcases advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems and smart home technologies, areas deemed vital for the emerging Cambodian urban market.
Beyond infrastructure and technology, the delegation is working to modernise Cambodia’s agricultural output. The Prime Minister welcomes Wu Yujie of the Shandong (Cambodia) Economic and Technological Development Zone, which has been operational in the country since 2012. Plans are finalised to expand investment into local cashew processing facilities, a move intended to shift Cambodia from a raw-material exporter to a value-added processor, creating skilled employment in the provinces.
The visit also included high-level dialogues with Yuanda Group and Fujian Jinlu Daily Chemical Co Ltd covering sectors from construction materials to advanced hygiene products. These engagements underscore the Royal Government’s intent to secure high-quality investment that transcends traditional manufacturing. By aligning Cambodia’s economic policy with Chinese leaders’ expertise in AI, renewable energy, and industrial infrastructure, Mr Hun Manet is positioning the country to achieve more resilient, long-term economic growth.
The Prime Minister’s delegation will conclude its mission following participation in the 2026 World AI Conference, where Cambodia aims to cement its growing reputation as an emerging hub for technological collaboration in Southeast Asia.
