South Korean firms eye investment in Cambodia’s agriculture sector

South Korean investors are exploring new ventures in Cambodia, particularly in cashew production and processing, according to Park Joo Bong, president of the Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry of South Korea.

The remarks were made during a meeting with Mr Hun Sen, acting head of state of Cambodia, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace on Tuesday.

According to Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Mr Hun Sen welcomed Park and his delegation, expressing hope that the trip would help identify further economic opportunities in the country.

During the meeting, Park highlighted Cambodia’s favourable investment climate, describing the country as safe and increasingly attractive to South Korean businesses. He noted that investors are particularly interested in Cambodia’s agricultural sector, especially cashew cultivation and processing.

Mr Hun Sen thanked the South Korean delegation for their growing interest and welcomed the focus on agriculture. He said that Cambodia possesses abundant agricultural raw materials and stressed the need for more investors capable of processing Cambodian agricultural products for export to South Korea and global markets.

Mr Hun Sen emphasised that trade and investment remain the core pillars of Cambodia-South Korea relations, adding that the visit would create additional opportunities for economic cooperation and expansion.

He also underlined the strong bilateral relationship between Cambodia and South Korea, which shares a strategic partnership. Mr Hun Sen expressed hope that the two countries could elevate ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in the future, particularly as they approach the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations.
