MoC reviews key trade agenda to boost economic growth
Officials discuss several key aspects, including regional trade cooperation, administrative and financial updates, trade promotion initiatives, intellectual property development, and international commercial engagement.
The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) yesterday held a meeting to strengthen trade performance, enhance administrative efficiency, and evaluate progress in domestic and international commerce, aiming to ensure alignment with the Royal Government’s economic recovery and development agenda.
Ok Boung, Secretary of State of MoC, chaired the monthly meeting attended by its senior officials, including secretaries of state, under secretaries of state, directors general, directors of departments, directors of provincial departments, and technical officers, in Phnom Penh on September 25.
According to the MoC announcement, the meeting was held both in person and via video conference, covering several key aspects, including regional trade cooperation, administrative and financial updates, domestic trade performance, trade promotion initiatives, intellectual property development, provincial commerce progress, and international commercial engagement.
The MoC officials briefed on the results of the conference on connecting enterprises, production, distribution, and logistics between Vietnam and Cambodia, which highlighted strengthened bilateral supply chain integration, enhanced market connectivity, and new opportunities to increase cross-border trade volumes.
The MoC’s General Directorate of Administration and Finance reported on its working progress, focusing on improved resource allocation, budget management, and internal audit systems designed to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and accountability within the ministry to support sustainable commerce operations.
The General Directorate of Domestic Trade presented updates on market regulation, food security measures, and monitoring of commodity supplies and prices, underscoring efforts to stabilise the domestic market and protect consumers while supporting local producers and small businesses.
The General Directorate of Trade Promotion provided a progress report on activities to expand Cambodia’s export markets, enhance participation in trade fairs, and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in accessing global value chains through better information, capacity building, and digital marketing platforms.
The Intellectual Property Department briefed the meeting on its work in strengthening legal protections, promoting awareness of intellectual property rights, and ensuring fair competition, aiming to safeguard Cambodian products and innovation in both domestic and international markets.
The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Department of Commerce reported on efforts to strengthen provincial trade activities, particularly within special economic zones, where infrastructure development and logistics improvement are contributing to higher investment flows and more competitive export capacity.
The Commercial Attaché to the Republic of Türkiye shared progress on strengthening bilateral economic relations, exploring new trade opportunities, and promoting Cambodian products in Turkish markets, while working to attract Turkish investors into the Kingdom’s priority economic sectors.
