PPAP sees surge in container throughputs

The positive trend continues into August with reports indicating a buoyant rise in both revenue and cargo volumes.

The listed Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) reported an increase in its business operations in the first eight months of this year, reflecting the improving economic conditions of the Cambodian economy.

An unaudited Business Outcome for the first eight months of 2025 filed to the Cambodia Securities Exchange yesterday showed that the container throughputs via the port increased by 24.57 percent to 390,778 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units).

Cargo and gas-fuel passing through rose by 17.13 percent to 3.7 million tonnes, added the report. In August alone, the port handled a total 67,161 containers, up 24.78 percent from 53,825 containers in August last year, read the report.

The positive trend continued into August with reports indicating a buoyant rise in both revenue and cargo volumes, said Phan Rim, Spokesman for the Minister of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).

Speaking with Khmer Times, Rim said, “This growth was accompanied by a significant rise in container traffic, highlighting a heightened level of trade activity.”

The MPWT has been a key driver in this growth, with a clear focus on enhancing Cambodia’s logistics and port procedures, he said. The port is a key component of Cambodia’s broader logistics master plan, which aims to reduce transportation costs and improve the efficiency of its infrastructure network.

The government has prioritised infrastructure development and the removal of operational barriers to create a more efficient and competitive trade environment.
