Cambodia and Japan Explore Opportunities for Tourism Cooperation
Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, held discussions with Shigeki Murata, Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA), and senior officials to explore new avenues for tourism cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Hak highlighted Cambodia’s strengths as a safe and attractive destination, citing peace, political and social stability, strong public order, and robust protections for international visitors ensured by the Royal Government of Cambodia.
He also underscored Cambodia’s growing potential as an emerging tourism market offering significant opportunities for foreign investment.
Hak proposed several concrete areas of collaboration, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Cambodia Tourism Board and the JTA, the organization of familiarization trips (Famtrips) to Cambodia, and the possibility of hosting joint roadshows to promote tourism destinations in both countries.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation to enhance the visibility of Cambodia and Japan as travel destinations, with the goal of increasing tourist exchanges. They also discussed plans for mutual participation in major international tourism promotion events in the future.
The Japan Tourism Agency (JTA), operating under Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), is the lead government body responsible for promoting the country’s tourism industry.
