Peace, security key to Cambodia’s economic growth, says senior official

A senior Cambodian official underscored the “crucial role” of peace and security in accelerating the nation’s economic development and improving family welfare.

Men Sam An, a member of the Supreme Privy Council to the King, made the remarks during a visit to troops in Preah Vihear province. Speaking at an event marking the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day, she said that national stability has created the favourable conditions necessary for social progress.

Under the theme “Peace and Security for Women and Families,” Men Sam An said that a safe environment free from violence is the foundation for women’s well-being. She said such conditions protect the rights of women and girls, prevent gender-based violence, and enable women to fully participate in decision-making and security development.

During her visit to Choam Ksan district, Men Sam An conveyed greetings from the Acting Head of State, Mr Hun Sen, and the Prime Minister, Hun Manet. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting military families, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance while their relatives serve in national defence.

The official also oversaw the distribution of supplies to several military units, including medical kits, fuel, food, and financial aid. She urged local authorities to continue prioritising the care of service members’ families in their respective areas.
