Ministry pushes for WTO trade remedies to ensure fair competition
The Ministry of Commerce is progressing with the implementation of trade remedies to ensure a level playing field for domestic industries, emphasising that the measures aim to promote fair competition rather than permanently restrict imports.

Sok Sopheak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, opened a five-day workshop on “Trade Remedy Implementation” on Monday. Co-organised with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the session runs until Friday and focuses on aligning local regulations with World Trade Organisation (WTO) agreements.
The workshop, attended by ADB Country Director Yasmin Siddiqi and members of the National Committee on Trade Remedies, reviews draft sub-decrees and international best practices.
Officials said that these legal frameworks are vital for protecting the local market from unfair practices such as dumping and subsidies. By adopting these global standards, the ministry aims to strengthen the economy’s resilience while maintaining its commitment to open and transparent international trade.
