Cambodia earns $1.5B from paddy, milled rice exports

The main markets for Kingdom’s milled rice include China, the EU markets and ASEAN member nations.

Exports of both paddy rice and milled rice have generated over $1,500 million in the first ten months this year, figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries showed yesterday.

The report further said that the country exported 4.44 million tonnes of paddy rice between January and October of this year, earning $1,000 million.

Meanwhile, 698,939 tonnes of milled rice worth $556 million were shipped to foreign markets.

The main markets for Cambodia’s milled rice are China, the EU markets and ASEAN member nations.

Speaking with Khmer Times, Lay Chhun Hour, President of the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF), said, “Our members and exporters are working with relevant ministries and firms to maintain the existing markets for exports and also looking to expand markets to further increase the amount of rice exports.”

The strong performance comes even as the government and private sector are preparing strategies to boost the sustainable growth of rice export.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and the CRF on Monday held a meeting to discuss the progress of rice production. CRF also presented its 5-year strategic plan and the opening of new market channels to further expand export potential.

Minister Cham Nimul asked the Cambodian Rice Federation to prepare a detailed plan to promote additional rice exports.

She also reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth in shaping the future of rice production.
