Cambodia promoting fintech innovation, Commerce Ministry official tells Shanghai forum
Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce has been promoting e-commerce and cross-border payments that enable SMEs to sell their products and meet both domestic and international demand, Secretary of State Samheng Bora said at the 8th Hongqiao International Economic Forum in Shanghai, China, on November 5.

The forum was held under the theme, “Propelling Global Economic and Trade Development Through Finance.”
Bora underscored that the financial sector is the lifeblood of trade, as access to appropriate financing helps boost production, connect markets, and strengthens confidence in global trade.
In the current context, financial innovation—particularly digital payment systems and fintech solutions for cross-border payments—has transformed the way trade and investment are conducted.
The Secretary of State also highlighted several initiatives of the Royal Government of Cambodia to promote an inclusive financial sector and digital connectivity, including developing the National Single Window and the CamDx platform, and supporting SMEs in gaining access to financing and adopting digital tools to facilitate growth and exports.
In addition, Bora underscored government efforts to promote e-commerce and cross-border payments, especially through platforms like CambodiaTrade.com, which enable SMEs to sell their products and meet both domestic and international demand, as well as partnerships with major platforms such as Alibaba to strengthen the presence of Cambodian products online.
He added that the creation of the Bakong system by the National Bank of Cambodia has facilitated faster and more convenient digital payments, contributing to more inclusive trade practices.
