An official dispatch by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on solutions to stabilise the soaring prices of construction materials is expected to be issued early to curb the recent unusual increases in costs of sand, gravel, stone, bricks and fill materials, according to the Ministry of Construction.

Soaring materials prices are weighing on construction costs and delaying the implementation of public infrastructure projects, Lê Trung Thành, Director of the ministry’s Department of Science, Technology, Environment and Building Materials, said. Slow licensing of extraction activities and speculation have also further distorted the market.

The ministry has advised the PM to issue an official dispatch on solutions to stabilise the building material market.

Cement production is estimated to reach nearly 50 million tonnes in the first half of this year, up 18 per cent year-on-year.

Ceramic tile output reached 225 million sq.m. Sanitary ware production was estimated at 6.5 million units.

Non-fired bricks, despite raw material shortages and rising sand prices, still reached 2.5 billion bricks by the end of June, up 8 per cent over the same period last year.
