Car tyre exports surge by 76 percent
The sharp growth in tyre exports is attributed to Cambodia’s successful export promotion efforts.
Cambodia recorded a significant surge in the export of car tyres in the first four months of 2025, as more tyre manufacturers are continuing to invest and expand their operations in the country.
Cambodia exported car tyres worth $437 million between January and April, an increase of 76 percent from $248 million in the year before, said a General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia report.
Ministry of Commerce Secretary of State and Spokesperson Penn Sovicheat attributed this sharp growth in car tyre exports to Cambodia’s successful export promotion efforts.
“Car tyre export is a new product of Cambodia. This reflects Cambodia’s product diversification for export. It also shows the Cambodian government’s efforts to promote and expand exports to regional and global markets,” he said.
The government is streamlining business procedures and enhancing the investment climate to attract investors, he said, adding that the government is facilitating exports and negotiating broader market access for Cambodian goods.
The growth in exports of vehicle tyres is attributed to the establishment of production facilities by international manufacturers, as many tyre manufacturers are continuing to invest and expand their operations in Cambodia, Lim Heng, Vice President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, said.
“This growing export is a good sign for the tyre industry, supporting exports and cultivation activities in rubber plantations in the agriculture sector,” he said.
Cambodia mostly produces quality rubber to serve the export market as well as to support local tire manufacturing plants, Heng said.
Currently, there are six car tyre manufacturing projects in different special economic zones in Cambodia.
In January of this year, a $500-million investment from Chinese company Wanli Tire Com, the sixth tyre manufacturing plant in Cambodia, started construction of facilities located in the SIN Bavet Special Economic Zone in Svay Rieng province’s Bavet town.
The factory covers approximately 32 hectares and is expected to create around 1,000 jobs.
According to the report, Cambodia exported rubber and rubber products worth more than $754 million, an increase of 51.8 percent, from $497 million in the same period last year.
As of the end of 2024, Cambodia had a total rubber area of more than 420,000 hectares, of which 330,000 hectares, equivalent to more than 77 percent of the total rubber area, are harvested.
