The One Village One Product Movement (OVOP) National Committee and Oxfam in Cambodia organized a three-day Local Producers and Buyers Marching Forum and Local Products Exhibition from July 5-7 at Macro Market in Chroy Changvar, Phnom Penh.
Suong Noy, Secretary-General of the National Committee for the Promotion of OVOP said the forum aims to build a bridge between local producers and buyers effectively and honestly.
“We are confident that today’s event will contribute to the economic development of Phnom Penh and Cambodia as a whole and improve the living standards of local communities,” said Noy.
“On behalf of the National Committee OVOP, I call on all local authorities and relevant departments to support and purchase Cambodian products for food, beverage, processing, packaging, resale or make as a gift.”
Phean Sophorn, Country Director of Oxfam in Cambodia, said that Oxfam is proud to be a partner with the One Village, One Product Committee to support a matching forum between local producers and buyers.
“This collaboration underscores Oxfam’s commitment to increasing opportunities for local producers and small and medium enterprises in Cambodia to gain market share, increase revenue and contribute to sustainable development, while this growth will help the poverty reduction in Cambodia,” she added.
She said that working together will allow to create a successful and sustainable forum to facilitate smooth market access for producers and enterprises in Cambodia.
It may be recalled that in 2022, the matching forum between producers and buyers and an exhibition of local products was held in 11 provinces, in 2023 exhibitions were held in 14 provinces and in 2024 it was held in four provinces.
Last month, the Local Producers and Buyers Marching Forum and Local Products Exhibition was held in Siem Reap province.
Prime Minister Hun Manet during the Seventh National Day for the promotion of Khmer products celebrated in April said that the OVOP model was initiated by generating local community spirit to improve household welfare and local economy, through creating unique products that have high added value, producing goods and services using local resources, and improving competitiveness both in national and global markets.
Strengthening the OVOP movement is crucial for socio-economic development of Cambodia and its vision to become a high-income country by 2050, he said.
