CDC approves 190 new projects worth $3.2 billion investment in H1
From January to June 2024, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved 190 new projects, production expansion projects, and special economic zone investment projects with a total investment of $3.2 billion and can create 168,572 jobs.
A press release issued by the CDC on July 5, 2024 states that, compared to the same period in 2023, the approval of investment projects increased by 77 projects while the investment capital increased significantly to more than $2 billion.
Notable investment projects with a capital of $100 million for the first half of 2024 include:
1. The project to establish and operate 2,870 five-star room hotels and business centres located in Sangkat 4, Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk Province has an investment capital of approximately $574 million and can create 3,860 jobs.
2. The Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) 150 MW Stung Meteuk Hydropower Project, located in Mondul Seima District, Koh Kong Province, has an investment of over $440 million and can create 220 jobs.
3. The investment project to build a multi-purpose port and logistics centre in Kampong Chhnang, located in Kampong Hao commune, Kampong Leng district, Kampong Chhnang province, has an investment of over $108 million and can create 115 jobs.
4. The project to establish and operate a data centre located in Sangkat Srah Chak, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh, with an investment capital of over $107 million and can create 54 jobs.
5. Production expansion project of Tyre Investment Project located in the Chiluchean Pouchai Special Economic Zone in Svay Rieng Province for the first time with an additional investment of over $212 million and can create additional 655 jobs, and the second time with an additional investment of more than $105 million and can create 542 additional jobs.
According to the CDC, investment in key sectors was led by the industrial sector at about $1843 million, accounting for 56.59%; infrastructure and other sectors at about $753 million, equivalent to 23.11%; tourism at about $588.9 million, equivalent to 18.07%; and agriculture and agro-industry at about $72 million, equivalent to 2.21%.
