CSX’s marketcap reaches $3 billion in Q1
The Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC) on Thursday said that the market capitalisation of the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) touched $3.06 billion at the end of the first-quarter of 2024.
SERC said the marketcap milestone indicates that CSX is growing at a healthy pace with room for growth. However, there is some concern over a recent decrease in trading activity. As trading volume for the first-quarter fell 55 percent quarter-over-quarter to 3.40 million shares in the first quarter of 2024.
Total trading value fell 46 percent to $5.21 million in the first quarter of 2024, compared to the fourth-quarter of 2023.
Total buy-sell orders were about 38.70 million shares. Of this, total buy orders were 16.69 million shares and sell orders 22.02 million shares.
CSX had 6,082 investors participating in the equity market in the first quarter, a decrease of 4.02 percent compared to the previous quarter. A majority (97.48 percent) of this trading was by Cambodian investors.
SERC is continuing its efforts to build public confidence training for investors and public awareness workshops, said SERC Director-General Sou Socheat.
“To boost trading and investor growth, SERC is providing free-of-charge investor IDs to investors who apply through the CSX,” he added.
In the first quarter of 2024, the Ministry of Finance and Economic has issued Government bonds for 21 times through the price auction method with a total volume of 492,100 units, yield rate between 2.0 percent to 5.2 percent with maturity of 1 year, 2 years and 3 years.
Launched in 2012, the CSX is a joint venture between the Cambodian government (55 percent stake) and the Korean Exchange (45 percent stake). As of June 2024, there are 23 listed companies, including 11 companies listed as stocks and 12 listed as bonds.
