Viet Nam’s 50 best-performing companies announced

The list of ’Viet Nam’s 50 best-performing companies in 2016’ (Top 50) was revealed at a ceremony last week.

The ranking process seeks to evaluate and rank companies with remarkable achievements in the field of business and reflect their abilities in the management of enterprises.

The selected companies must be listed on the HCM City Stock Exchange (HoSE) and Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX) and must satisfy the following conditions: market capitalisation of VND1.5 trillion (US$66.1 million) or more, revenue in the three years preceding the survey year is VND250 billion or more, and net profit of the three years preceding the survey year is VND25 billion or more.

The Top 50 this year includes 12 remarkable companies, who are taking the lead in various sectors with market capitalisation worth over $1 billion, including Vietjet that is operating in the transport area, Sabeco in the food sector and Novaland in the real estate field.

Large firms such as Vinamilk, Vingroup, Vietcombank, FPT and Hoa Phat continued to be honoured in the top 50 this year.

With double-tracked sales growth of 14.8 per cent, return on equity (ROE) of 34.5 per cent and return on stock investments over a three-year period from 2014 to 2016 reaching 82 per cent, Vinamilk has been one of the leading companies, contributing to the continuous growth of the domestic economy.

Top 50 is an annual ranking developed by Nhip cau dau tu Magazine in tandem with Thien Viet Securities. The ranking process took counsel from many economists and business experts from Harvard Business School and referred to many prestigious rankings from renowned publications such as Bloomberg Businessweek, Fortune, and Forbes.

The Top 50 list was designed to evaluate and rank the listed companies with remarkable achievements in their fields of business through key financial indicators and encourage companies to pursue better corporate governance and strategic thinking, and recognise the business leaders who have demonstrated long-term vision and creative thinking.
