Fangchenggang, Da Nang to develop sea tourism
Da Nang and the Chinese Guangxi Province's Fangchenggang City plan to develop a sea tourism route connecting the Chinese city with Ha Long Bay, Da Nang and Nha Trang cities.
Fangchenggang's Municipal Party Secretary Jin Xiangjun said this at a meeting with the central city of Da Nang's people's committee yesterday.
They agreed to boost tourism, trade and exchanges between the two port cities in the future.
Vice-Chairman of the city Phung Tan Viet said the bilateral trade between Da Nang and China was US$200 million, of which 90 per cent came from Da Nang's imports.
Viet said Da Nang received 38 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects from China, worth $250 million, accounting for only eight per cent of the city's total investment.
He said Da Nang Port was confirmed to be a major commercial port in the central region, making it one of the key gateways to the East Sea from the sub-Mekong region. It handles cargo communication and tourism to Viet Nam's central provinces and the Central Highlands, southern Laos and northeast Thailand via the East-West Economic Corridor.
As one of China's 12 main hub ports, Fangchenggang shipped more than 100 million tonnes of cargo in 2012 and has been Guangxi's leading port for years.
The number of Chinese tourists has seen the highest increase among foreign tourists to the city.
Da Nang is linked to international destinations via 20 air routes, of which 13 involve direct chartered flights to Chinese destinations such as Hangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing, as well as Kunming, Shenyang and Dalian.
Da Nang signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on tourism co-operation and investment with Shandong and Guangdong provinces in the 2013-14 period.
According to the latest report, Da Nang welcomed 4.6 million tourists, of which more than 1.25 million were foreigners.
The city's ports also hosted 400 cruises this year for 444,000 foreign tourists.
