VN lures US funds to securities market
The State Securities Commission (SSC) will hold a conference in the US from tomorrow to Sunday to attract more foreign investments in Viet Nams securities market and stabilise foreign investor confidence.
At the conference, the Ministry of Finance and the SSC will present new policies to help Viet Nam's securities market reach international expectations.
Decree 60, issued last Thursday, allows foreign investors to raise their stakes in Vietnamese public listed companies.
In addition, the Government issued other policies that reduce transaction terms and allow traders to settle their trading activities within the day.
The conference is expected to help increase American businesses and investors confidence in Viet Nams securities market.
Through the conference, Viet Nam hopes to develop comprehensive financial co-operation between two countries.
According to the SSC, 600 US investors have taken stakes in the national securities market – but only mid-cap and small-cap ones.
To draw bigger investors, the Government has tried to upgrade the country's stock market to meet international standards and become more modern.
The conference will have two parts. The first will concern securities policies between Vietnamese representatives and American investors and companies, to collect feedback from the US side.
Through the discussion, Viet Nam will show its commitment to and appreciation for American businesses and investors.
In the second part, companies will discuss their experiences and opportunities operating in Viet Nams financial market.
Some large local companies, including the State Capital and Investment Company (SCIC), Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) and Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), and about 100 US investment funds and companies, will participate in the conference.
