Bourses struggle to reach yesterday's benchmark
Both bourses had tough morning sessions as they struggled to close higher than yesterday's benchmarks.
On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index started lower than yesterday's benchmark, but managed to gain 0.12 per cent to close at 593.77 points.
Overall, shares on the southern bourse ended mixed, with 117 stocks that remained unchanged, 100 losers and 87 gainers.
Liquidity was average with 67.4 million shares being traded this morning, worth VND1.22 trillion (US$56.8 million).
The VN30 Index, which tracks the top 30 stocks in terms of capitalisation and liquidity, slightly increased by 0.09 per cent to reach 615 points, with the gainers and losers maintaining a balance.
Petro Vietnam Gas Corporation (GAS) was up 0.79 per cent to end at VND64,000 per share, while two other top blue chips, Vietcombank (VCB) and Vietnam Dairy Products Corporation (VNM), stayed flat.
Securities shares such as HCM City Securities JSC (HCM) and Saigon Securities JSC (SSI) rose above yesterday's values. HCM made a large gain of 3.53 per cent to finish at VND35,200 per share.
The market condition was similar to yesterday morning as there was not much difference between the top active shares on the market. FLC Group (FLC) was the most active code, trading 6.8 million of its shares and rising to VND8,900 per share.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index started higher than yesterday's benchmark, but could only gain 0.04 per cent to close at 86.79 points.
Market liquidity was flat compared to yesterday morning, with nearly 25 million shares being traded this morning, worth VND333 billion ($15.4 million).
In general, the losers outnumbered the gainers by 89 to 59, while 212 stocks remained unchanged.
Seven stocks traded more than one million shares this morning. IB Securities JSC (VIX) was the most active code, with 1.9 million of its shares being exchanged, while remaining flat.
Among the top active codes, FIT Investment JSC (FIT) fell by 2.26 per cent to close at VND13,000, with 1.8 million of its shares being traded.
The afternoon session will start at 1pm.
