Diesel price drops 100 kip per litre

The price of diesel at petrol stations around the country dropped yesterday after a Ministry of Industry and Commerce announcement on Wednesday.

Diesel prices in Vientiane dropped around 110 kip per litre from 9,170 kip to 9,060 kip, with other provinces also seeing drops of around 100 kip per litre, according to the announcement.

In Khammuan and Savannakhet provinces, diesel prices decreased from 9,190 kip to 9,090 kip per litre. In Champassak province the price decreased from 9,200 kip to 9,100 kip. In Bokeo province the price decreased from 9,270 kip to 9,170 kip and in Xieng Khuang province, the price decreased from 9,390 kip to 9,290 per litre.

The prices have adjusted due to the price of fuel changing in the world market.

This is the seventh time petrol prices have adjusted in the past five months in Laos, with the price dropping four times and increasing three times.

The Lao Petroleum and Gas Group Secretary General, Mr Thong Thammalat, told Vientiane Times yesterday the import price of fuel was stable but it may decrease again.

However, he said the fuel price at domestic petrol stations may increase as the government is considering raising the fuel tax.

According to the government policy, the price of diesel would not be sold over 10,000 kip per litre, while petrol would be set to remain under 11,000 kip.
