Dao Coffee to serve Vietnamese coffee drinkers

Preceding the establishment of the Asean Economic Community in 2015, Dao coffee has already moved ahead with regional integration, after the company signed an agreement with a Vietnamese company to supply Dao products throughout Vietnam.

The signing ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam by Director of Blue Star Contribution, Mr Tran Xuan Dinh and Vice President of Dao Heuang Group, Ms Boon Heuang Litdang.

The ceremony was attended by Lao Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ms Khemmani Pholsena, Deputy Governor of Champassak province, Mr Bouason Vongsongkhone, Deputy Mayor Ho Chi Minh City, Mr Le Manh Ha, Head of the HCMC National Assembly Delegation, Mr Huynh Thanh Lap, related officials and representatives from both companies.

Ms Khemmani said that the event is a milestone in the expanding trade network with neighbouring countries as well as in the growing export of quality Lao products.

She added, “This is also a good foundation for our preparations for the Asean Economic Community in 2015. This will contribute to the trade target planned between Laos and Vietnam of US$2 billion in 2015.”

“I am confident that this quality Lao coffee will be well integrated into the Vietnamese market,” she said.

The chairwoman of the Dao-Heuang Group, Mrs Leuang Litdang, said the agreement is a major step in the expansion of her business. “I'm quite confident that our coffee will be well received on the Vietnamese market, firstly because of the quality of our coffee coming from a well-known plantation area and, secondly, because we have a good partnership which has a network throughout the country.”

Mrs Leuang said this will help to expand our business and create more employment and income generation for the local people as well as the province and the country. “The company hires a lot of local people to work in the factory, as well as many in the coffee plantation.”

Dao-Heuang exports its Dao Coffee to many countries around the world, including Japan, Switzerland, Italy, China, and Singapore.

The Director of Blue Star Contribution, Mr Tran Xuan Dinh said, “This year, the company expects to import US$5 million of Dao coffee to sell in Vietnam through the company's network.”

“However, this is only the beginning. We also have a market network in Japan and the USA, and we plan to send Dao products to these markets in the next few years. So the volume of our trade will grow bigger every year,” he added.

“I am sure that Dao coffee will receive a good welcome from Vietnamese coffee drinkers because Dao coffee has a great taste and is a quality coffee.”

“The company has already made a market survey and found that Vietnamese customers love the product, so we have come to this agreement signing,” he said.

Established in 1991 by Mrs Leuang Litdang as a small import-export company, Dao-Heuang Group (DHG) is now one of the largest and most progressive companies in Laos.

The new modern Dao coffee factory was officially opened in 2012. The company's factory has three modern machines for the processing of coffee beans.

The company has already established numerous businesses such as Dao-Heuang Duty Free Shops, Dao Coffee, Air Booking Services, Real Estate Rental, Pharmaceutical Products and there will be many more in the near future.

The company currently owns 250 hectares of coffee plantation situated at Savang village, Pakxe district, Champassak province. They are able to grow approximately 500 tonnes of coffee beans which they can harvest each year, valued at more than 9 billion kip.

Since setting up the cooperation programme in 2001, Ho Chi Minh City and Champassak province have achieved solid results, with HCM City investors starting nearly 40 projects in the Lao province, most of them in agro-forestry, industry, and tourism.
