BCEL announces asset increase, launches e-payment service

Banque Pour Le Commerce Exterieur Lao Public has acquired new assets totaling 15, 878 billion kip as of the third quarter of year 2013, the bank reported, which is equivalent to 93 percent of the annual plan.

The bank's Managing Director, Mr Vankham Viravong released the latest financial figures at the official launch of the bank's new E-Commerce service in Vientiane last Friday.

Mr Vankham said that the bank increased its assets by six percent when compared to the same period last year, while going on to announce the new e-payment service to customers.

“In 2013, BCEL has successfully provided new services to customers in terms of the development of its products,” he said, unveiling the new internet based payment platform.

BCEL One is an application programme developed by the bank's technical staff to enable its customers to transfer money, and make bill payments for utilities such as electricity, water and telephones via smart phones and computers with internet connections, he explai ned.

To launch the new E-Commerce service, BCEL worked in partnership with CyberSource, an E-commerce credit card payment system management company with a trusted payment gateway system.

“The E-commerce system is suited to entrepreneurs in different fields such as hotels, airlines, travel agents, handicraft traders and other Lao products, enabling foreign trade partners to order products through their websites,” Mr Vankham said.

“It is believed BCEL E-commerce will help our customers to broaden their foreign markets as well as to promote Lao products across the world,” he added.
