Pharmaceutical trade between Korea and Laos promoted

Seven major South Korean pharmaceutical companies came to Laos from October 28-29 to seek business opportunities in partnership with local Lao companies.

On the first day of their visit, they met with officials from the Food and Drug Department of the Ministry of Health to study policies on trade, registration and conditions for business operation in Laos.

Lao officials also learned about investment in the pharmaceutical sector in Korea, according to Vientiane Korean Business Centre Director General, Mr Ahn Yoo Seok, who spoke to Vientiane Times yesterday.

A seminar was organised to help Korean b usiness operators obtain a deeper understanding about conditions and policies on investment in Laos as well as to promote Lao business operators to invest in Korea.

On the second day, the Korean companies had one-on-one business meetings with Lao companies on a pharmaceutical trade mission to propose drug products and medical equipment that may be of use in Laos.

Local companies ca n order products from Korean companies if they can be used for treatment in Laos, Mr Ahn said.

Through this meeting, both Lao and Korean companies also exchanged experience and knowledge about pharmaceutical products and the rules of business operation in each other's countries.

The event was organised by KOTRA (Korea Business Centre, Embassy of the Republic of Korea). This year, KOTRA has already held four-trade missions to promote trade and investment opportunities between Laos and Korea.

The object of organising the events is to boost trade and investment in Laos and to promote Lao businesses to lift their service standards to the international level.
