Korea helps out with product development for export market

Asean-Korea Centre Secretary General Chung Hae-moon is organising a ‘Product Development Workshop' in Laos for handicraft and rice noodle makers from October 30 to November 2.

According to a press release from the centre, the workshop will be co-organised with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. It is designed to introduce know-how on enhancing product development capability and methods to generate business expansion into the Korean market.

On October 30-31 the workshop on handicraft products will be held in Vientiane and on November 1-2 the workshop on rice noodle products will take place in Luang Prabang province.

To assist with the workshop, Korean experts in each field will be brought in for the occasion, providing lectures and consultations for the some 80 businesspeople expected to participate.

At the handicrafts workshop, lectures will focus on making inroads into overseas markets by raising the artistic value of products and introducing new marketing strategies.

Lectures on rice noodles will look at penetrating new export markets by presenting noodles in a more marketable form, similar to that of Korea's cup noodles.

The ‘Product Development Workshop' is expected to contribute to further promoting trade and friendship between Korea and Laos by supporting Lao handicraft and rice noodle companies to build their capacity to expand into overseas markets, in line with increasing global demands.
