Khammuan expects production values to increase

Khammuan province expects the manufacturing and processing industries and handicraft sectors to increase their output in the fiscal year 2013-14.

The provincial Industry and Commerce Department reported recently that the value of products produced by the two sectors is set to be more than 533 billion kip for 2013-14, an increase from 502.13 billion kip in 2012-13.

The province hopes that output will keep increasing and in recent times has issued licenses for many new factories.

The department confirmed that it had issued business operation licenses for 20 new factories in 2012-13 with an investment cost of some 30.74 billion kip.

The factories include nine large factories with an investment cost of 5.06 billion kip, seven medium d plants worth 11.95 billion kip and 11 small plants worth 13.80 billion kip.

Large factories employ more than 200 people, medium d ones between 50 and 200 people, and smaller ones 50 or less.

The department reported that currently Khammuan has 241 industrial processing companies with a total investment of 1,653.78 billion kip, including 82 large plants with an investment value of 1,468.71 billion kip, 54 medium d ones worth 149.96 billion kip and 105 small ones worth 35.11 billion kip. The factories include furniture, tapioca, cement, potash, lead ore and rubber, producing both for export and domestic supply.

The handicraft and service sectors have 420 businesses with a combined investment valued at 10.17 billion kip.

In 2012-13, Khammuan has issued new business licenses for a total of 263 business operators with a total investment value of more than 202.87 billion kip and US$13.09 million.

However investment decreased by some27.34 percent compared to 2011-12, which has been attributed to uncertain global economic conditions.

Broken down by sector, investment in agriculture was worth 17.35 billion kip, industry at 18.03 billion kip, trade at 84.21 billion kip and service units at 83.25 billion kip.
