Lao, Philippine business councils strengthen ties

The business councils of Laos and the Republic of the Philippines are increasing their efforts to promote business connections through a programme of working exchange visits.

Members of the Laos-Philippines Business Council (LPBC) led by its Chairman Mr Daovone Phachanthavong and Vice Chairman Mr Oudet Souvannavong, met with members of the Philippines-Laos Business Council in Manila last week.

The meeting aimed to bolster the ties and cooperation between them and follow up on the past two working visits of the Philippines-Laos Business Council to Laos.

It was also hoped it would spur more people and businesses from the Philippines to invest in Laos during the current period of rapid economic growth.

The Lao delegation was joined by the Lao Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines, Ms Malayvieng Sakonninhom.

The delegation called on the Minister for Industry and Commerce in the Philippines, Mr Adrian S. Cristobal Jr, the Chairman of the Philippines-Laos Business Council, Mr Antonio L. Cabangon Chua, and also met with the Philippines Franchise Association.

The delegation also participated in the official inauguration of Dexign Global Philip pines, a trade fair where Lao companies Beauty of Lao Silk, Your Silk, Traditional Lao Silk Handicraft Group and L.L.S. had a variety of silks and other handicrafts on display.

Senior Lao officials also took part in marking the eighth anniversary of the Philippines' Business Mirror newspaper .

The Lao delegation came away with a satisfactory outcome after the Philippines Franchise Association agreed to participate in the Vientiane annual products fair in January next year.

The Lao delegation also agreed to attend the Philippines' annual fair in Manila next July.
