Shares continued to rise January 16. However, the rally eased towards the end of the session.
"The market is showing signs that do not support the sustainable recovery of the index," said BIDV Securities Co analysts.
They maintained caution about market sentiment, advising investors to limit buys.
"However, the market will not decline sharply," they said.
Yesterday session was a good opportunity for sellers at high prices, said FPT Securities Co analysts.
"Therefore, profit-taking started to increase." However, sellers were careful in their activities, preventing stock indices to fall, they said.
On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index put on 0.83 per cent, reaching 465.25 points. Gainers outnumbered losers by 206-48.
The value of trades climbed 19.2 per cent, compared to Tuesday, to some VND1.4 trillion (US$66.4 million) as trading volume hit nearly 96.6 million shares.
Of the 30 leading shares by capitalisation and liquidity, only five tumbled.
Meanwhile, four among the advancers hit their ceiling prices: construction companies Dic Corp (DIG), Tan Tao (ITA) and Tu Liem Urban Development (NTL), and Da Nang Rubber Co (DRC).
Since being included in the VN30 tracking, DRC had few sessions hitting the daily increase limit. The stock yesterday closed at VND31,800 ($1.50) after announcing the company's estimated profit of VND417 billion ($19.8 million), exceeding 81 per cent of the year's target.
The VN30, which is tracking these blue chips, added 0.67 per cent to 546.34 points. The benchmark HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange also increased over 0.8 per cent to 62.71 points as rising stocks were more than three times larger than declining codes. 111 million shares changed hands on a turnover of VND855.2 billion ($40.7 million), slightly up from the previous session.
Blue chips in Ha Noi, however, dragged on the HNX30 down 0.11 per cent at 121.65 points, while the index gained 2 per cent earlier.
Foreign investors were buyers yesterday by a combined margin of VND88.5 billion ($4.2 million) on both bourses.
